mean reds

Holly : You know those days when you get the mean reds?
Paul : The mean reds, you mean like the blues?
Holly : No. The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of.

-Breakfast at Tiffany’s

While Holly chooses to jump in a cab and visit Tiffany’s to calm her down again; on my unproductive days, after attempting to balance the brain chemicals by consuming some vitamin B and exercising a tiiny bit, reblogging people’s creations whilst eating my delicious words surprisingly helps!

Happy International Women’s Day

We’re not equal, we are special =)

Please don't complain unless you have a uterus that carries such a big job and responsibility ;D

**

Today is the International Women’s Day, so I’d like to give tribute to the iconic women who have made impact on the world. Herewith is the list of some women in history who are my true role models and inspiration. These icons have brought revolution in their own way with their own kick ass style.

1. Coco” Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971)

“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”

A fashion revolutionist, a true manizer, workaholic, successful entrepreneur… what more could you ask for? This stubborn lady “taught” women how to dress casually and freely, while still looking chic and elegant. What lunatic says women must suffocate under those tight corsages?

2. Amelia Mary Earhart (July 24, 1897; missing July 2, 1937)

“The woman who can create her own job is the woman who will win fame and fortune.”

The first aviatrix to fly a plane across the Atlantic. She was once a nurse, photographer, truck driver, stenographer, clothing line owner, Cosmo editor,  she’s done it all! Earhart referred to her marriage as a “partnership” with “dual control” and refused to change her last name to her husband’s, Putnam. She may be non-committal to a man, but never to her dreams (a must learn lesson! -_-).

3. Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962)

“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”

A legendary actress who is “very shy and very sweet and far more intelligent than people gave her credit for”.

Her sex appeal and beauty is what gotten her into massive fame, and she clearly knows how to use it. Being a “feminist in disguise”, her figure is adored by both male and female, until today. Women are inspired by the fact that a sex symbol can be so vulnerable and complex inside, while men drool over her.. well, intelligence 😆

4. Sylvia Plath (October 27, 1932 – February 11, 1963)

A living doll, everywhere you look.
It can sew, it can cook.
It can talk, talk, talk.
It works, there is nothing wrong with it.
You have a hole, it’s a poultice.
You have an eye, it’s an image.
My boy, it’s your last resort.
Will you marry it, marry it, marry it.

“The Applicant” (1966)

The power of her poetries always gives me goosebumps. A talented writer/author with such dramatic and intriguing life. I find myself wanting to murder her husband everytime I am reminded of what he’s done to her. Of course I’m just kidding… (no I’m not).

5. Gwen Stefani (born October 3, 1969)

“I want to be a guy, but I want to wear a lot of makeup.”

The role model for today’s generation. She’s a singer, a songwriter, she owns a clothing line, married to a rockstar, a mother, and always a trend setter. No matter how weird her latest styles look like, I’d always find her interesting and fascinating. Everything seems right if she‘s doing it  =)

Friendly Reminder

Have you done anything useful for anyone today?

The picture was taken during my trip to Banjarmasin a few months ago. It was at Pulau Kembang, at the delta of Barito River which is also known for its floating market. See unique pictures of it here and here. The activity of the floating market only occurs for 1-2 hours right after sunrise (until around 7). It was the funniest breakfast experience I ever had, where we try to “catch” our foods and drinks from the “floating cafe”, altogether with people from other boats around us.

Anyway, one of the monkeys grabbed my Nikon lens cap (with string!) and until now my camera lens is still unprotected… Oh well.. Monkeys.

The True Male Beauty

peacock_earrings

“Oooh peacock feather earrings! Look how gorgeous they are!”

Seller: “Yeah, well, they are genuine feather…”

Response 1: “What? That’s so cool! And it’s not even expensive!”

Response 2: “WHAT?! You sick murderer! And you value their lives with such low price!”

**

Why it’s that self conflict created for the sake of the thrill.

The image of a male peacock holocaust where they get plucked to death was just too horrifying that I passed on buying them. But then I can’t stop thinking about those earrings that I had to do some very important research.

Apparently, “every year, toward the end of summer, peacocks finish shaking their tail feathers, and their stunning plumage gradually falls off”(source).
These feathers are shed annually during the molt and gathered as a valuable “crop” in many countries through its range”(source).

Hm… the concept of using male’s “dignity tool” to attract females as accessories really is intriguing. I just hope that that really is how they obtain so many pairs of them in exact same sizes…

These fellas really do understand chicks don’t they? Shiny things confuse us! 😆
Go get’em boys!

Hello, goodbye?

I’ve finally found some time to play with Photoshop again after so long (oh how I miss you… *SMOOCH*!!).. And I stumbled upon this really interesting website that tutors us how to edit normal pictures into vintage/lomo-esque style.

Fake, but it does work like a charm… don’t you think?

I always loved this one, but the mood is just not bold enough… I think the shades-contrast-tone helped make the photo much more dramatic.

Incheon International Airport, South Korea. I just wanted to see how it looked like in black and white.. And I love it!

A cute couple hugging each other tightly at Nami Island (it was -15 degree Celsius after all!).
A bit off focus, and I totally went mad with the sharpness.. but why don’t I care? hehehe
