Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Date a (Female) Scientist*

This is probably the umpteenth repost of this on the internet, but I just can’t get over how funny (and true) it is! 😆

So here it is, the top 10 reasons you should date a scientist!

10 – The world revolves around Scientists, we know how everything works!

9 – We are over-exposed to latex and have become very tolerable

8 – We are “Oh so smart” you’ll never be mentally bored with us… So you wanna know why your poo is brown?

7 – All this thinking we do is terribly draining, so we like to be physically challenged & EXPERIMENT too!

6 – There’s no need to see a doctor when you’re with us, we’ve seen & tested just about every bacterial disease there is!

5 – We’re physiologically knowledgeable, if you’re unhappy about a physical feature, we can Genetically Modify YOU

4 – We can hook you up with all the essential party goods… dry ice, Eppie bombs and a shit load of combustible materials. What more could you want?

3 – We look extremely cute in our white lab coats, especially when we wear nothing underneath

2 – You will sound just as smart as us if you say you’re dating a Scientist!

1 – Because if you leave us, we’ll willingly use you as a lab rat & inject a virus in you

Happy International Women’s Day

We’re not equal, we are special =)

Please don't complain unless you have a uterus that carries such a big job and responsibility ;D

Today is the International Women’s Day, so I’d like to give tribute to the iconic women who have made impact on the world. Herewith is the list of some women in history who are my true role models and inspiration. These icons have brought revolution in their own way with their own kick ass style.

1. Coco” Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971)

“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”

A fashion revolutionist, a true manizer, workaholic, successful entrepreneur… what more could you ask for? This stubborn lady “taught” women how to dress casually and freely, while still looking chic and elegant. What lunatic says women must suffocate under those tight corsages?

2. Amelia Mary Earhart (July 24, 1897; missing July 2, 1937)

“The woman who can create her own job is the woman who will win fame and fortune.”

The first aviatrix to fly a plane across the Atlantic. She was once a nurse, photographer, truck driver, stenographer, clothing line owner, Cosmo editor,  she’s done it all! Earhart referred to her marriage as a “partnership” with “dual control” and refused to change her last name to her husband’s, Putnam. She may be non-committal to a man, but never to her dreams (a must learn lesson! -_-).

3. Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962)

“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”

A legendary actress who is “very shy and very sweet and far more intelligent than people gave her credit for”.

Her sex appeal and beauty is what gotten her into massive fame, and she clearly knows how to use it. Being a “feminist in disguise”, her figure is adored by both male and female, until today. Women are inspired by the fact that a sex symbol can be so vulnerable and complex inside, while men drool over her.. well, intelligence 😆

4. Sylvia Plath (October 27, 1932 – February 11, 1963)

A living doll, everywhere you look.
It can sew, it can cook.
It can talk, talk, talk.
It works, there is nothing wrong with it.
You have a hole, it’s a poultice.
You have an eye, it’s an image.
My boy, it’s your last resort.
Will you marry it, marry it, marry it.

“The Applicant” (1966)

The power of her poetries always gives me goosebumps. A talented writer/author with such dramatic and intriguing life. I find myself wanting to murder her husband everytime I am reminded of what he’s done to her. Of course I’m just kidding… (no I’m not).

5. Gwen Stefani (born October 3, 1969)

“I want to be a guy, but I want to wear a lot of makeup.”

The role model for today’s generation. She’s a singer, a songwriter, she owns a clothing line, married to a rockstar, a mother, and always a trend setter. No matter how weird her latest styles look like, I’d always find her interesting and fascinating. Everything seems right if she‘s doing it  =)

Goodbye, Alexander McQueen

“Inspired by Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, it was divided into two parts: the first was based on nature.. The second part took its reference from the industrial revolution and the harm that man has done to the world since. McQueen wanted to demonstrate how fragile the planet is, and his use of the stuffed animals was to underscore the fact that perhaps these may be the only animals left for our grandchildren to see.”

Only since 2006 have I learned about Alexander McQueen and his twistedly beautiful creations. I found out that he was the favorite designer of myfavorite ANTM model at that (naive) moment, and when I first saw his designs, I knew instantly that they were artworks made with heart. His works are where fashion and arts collide; surprising and dramatic, often stating historical, political, or environmental issues.

A dearfriend of mine once said, “We tend to idolize people with qualities we may still lack. The fact that they possess something we desire is the reason why we are drawn to them”.

Which I find so true in this case. I always go gaga everytime seeing his works, be it the ready to wear or haute couture collections. Although his designs may be too bizarre for some people, I say weird is good. If only I was a talented genius with such insane creativity like him…

“But everybody has their own demons, no matter how talented, famous, or successful they are. And those who can fight them are lucky.”-source

The world has lost one talented artist/designers, and he is the one that actually lit a fire inside my soul. To see him or at least attend his show was a promise I made to myself. But now that he’s gone, I am truly out of words 😥

Goodbye McQueen, thanks for being such an inspiration to us.

Indonesia Unite: Let’s Prove That It’s Not Just Nonsense

Stop talking about love. Every asshole in the world says he loves somebody. It means nothing. What you feel only matters to you. It’s what you do to the people you say you love, that’s what matters. It’s the only thing that counts.
The Last Kiss

People of Indonesia – Indonesian youngsters in particular, many are being skeptical watching this Indonesia Unite movement. They say that this is just temporary, and that it does not mean anything that we change our avatars into red and white, become a fan of a facebook page, et cetera et cetera…

Personally, I love seeing our country coming together into one like this. Cynics may say “Blah, what’s the point?”

But I say, if you love something, and you support (or fight against) something, then it’s good to let people know. But this is only a very tiny step, a baby step, that frankly, could mean nothing after all.

Imagine having someone who claims that they love you so much. You believe in their words, you trust them, and you enjoy hearing them say, whisper, or even shamelessly yell out loud:

Then one day you got hit by a car, or an insane-coward murderer tried to shoot you in the head. You got injured, you’re running out of blood and dying. But all that so-called “significant other” do is keep on yelling at everyone, claiming how much they love you.

The T-shirt has a picture of your face on it. But does it stop you from bleeding to death?

Indonesia is now crying, we are being humiliated by a group of irresponsible people (are they locals? our neighbour? is this an international scandal just to throw us back to square one? are they simply a bunch of Satan escaped from the lowest Hell trying to give us more trial to learn?). Wallahualam, God knows best.

After our peaceful, open, and democratic President election (mind you, non-voters, I’m ignoring your existence) last July 8th, a certain party feels like they need to make a scene, a coward scene where they don’t even have the balls to unveil their group’s identity. Travel warnings are being sent here and there (and we sadly can’t give any rational argumentation to convince them that they’re wrong and it is safe here). Sports and musical events and performances are being cancelled (and we can only hold grudges having our money being refunded). –Is any of you laughing out there? If so, maybe you should have your hearts and brains checked, are they functioning or just lumps of useless organs?

God I am so angry that I just want to scream and cry. And so are the rest of Indonesia.

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.
-Mahatma Gandhi

Reality check. Kalau mau heboh membela negara sambil memproklamirkan rasa cinta kita, mungkin ada baiknya kita bersama-sama introspeksi diri dari hal-hal paling sepele.

Masih buang sampah sembarangan? Lempar-lempar sampah kaya orang udik ke jalanan/selokan?

Masih suka diskriminasi saudara satu negara? Menghina suku, agama, ras orang lain?

Malu baca buku made in Indonesia?

It is not what we get. But who we become, what we contribute… that give meaning to our lives.
-Tony Robbins

Gwen Stefani – Early Winter video

You, you know how to get me so low
My heart had a crash when we spoke
I can’t fix what you broke
You, you always have a reason
Again & again this feelin’
Why do I give in?
& I always was, always was one for crying
I always was one for tears

The sun’s getting cold, It’s snowing
Looks like an Early Winter for us
Looks like an Early Winter for us
An Early Winter
Oh I need you to turn me over

It’s sad the map of the world is on you
The moon gravitates around you
The seasons escape you
& I always was, always was one for crying
I always was one for tears
No, I never was, never was one for lying
You lied to me all of these years

The sun’s getting cold, It’s snowing
Looks like an Early Winter for us
Looks like an Early Winter for us
An Early Winter
Oh I need you to turn me over

The sun’s getting cold, It’s snowing
Looks like an Early Winter for us
Looks like an Early Winter for us
An Early Winter
Oh I need you to turn me over

Why do you act so stupid?
You know that I’m always right

The sun’s getting cold, It’s snowing
Looks like an Early Winter for us
Looks like an Early Winter for us
An Early Winter
Oh I need you to turn me over

It looks like an Early Winter for us
It hurts & I can’t remember sunlight
An Early Winter for us
The leaves are changing colour for us
& it gets too much, yeah it gets so much
Starting over & over & over again
& it gets too much, yeah it gets so much
Starting over & over & over again
& it gets too much, yeah it gets so much
It looks like an Early Winter for us

The song was written by two of the most outstanding musicians in the world: Gwen Stefani & Tim Rice-Oxley – who happen to be the top 2 people I’d die to meet. I can’t believe how long it took me to notice this video’s existence! The video is downright amazing, Gwen looks morbidly beautiful, and the dark and gloomy aura of the song was perfectly delivered. The only thing I hate about this video is the lack of Tim’s presence. Where is he? I have always pictured this video with Tim playing his piano while Gwen sings.. 😦

Seriously, two of your favorite-est musicians (from two separate countries & genres) working together isn’t something that would happen casually everyday and it is very disappointing that Tim doesn’t appear in the video.. *sobs*

KEANE & Tim Rice-Oxley quotes

I don’t wanna be adored
Don’t wanna be first in line
Or make myself heard
I’d like to bring a little light
To shine a light on your life
To make you feel loved

No, don’t wanna be the only one you know
I wanna be the place you call home

I lay myself down
To make it so, but you don’t want to know
I give much more
Than I’d ever ask for

Will you see me in the end?
Or is it just a waste of time
Trying to be your friend?
Just shine, shine, shine
Shine a little light
Shine a light on my life
And warm me up again

Fool, I wonder if you know yourself at all
You know that it could be so simple

I lay myself down
To make it so, but you don’t want to know
You take much more
Than I’d ever ask for

Say a word or two to brighten my day
Do you think that you could see your way

To lay yourself down
And make it so, but you don’t want to know
You take much more
Than I’d ever ask for

Keane – Hamburg Song

“I hate it when people refuse to acknowledge their own feelings and reactions to something, because they see it as being a weakness to say that they’re scared, or upset about something, or whatever.”

“It can happen to anyone, people judge you too quickly rather than actually bothering to find out what’s below the surface.”

“I like trying to write about confusion and grey areas because life is not normally very clear-cut and simple, especially when it comes to the way people interact.”

-: “Tim do you ever worry about people thinking you’re weird?”
+: “Well, you say that Ted, but I don’t think it’s possible to be a good artist without being a bit of a freak. If you were happy and contended and normal then you wouldn’t be able to work.”

– Tim Rice-Oxley

Rihanna & Indonesia’s Angklung

I watched this really awesome version of Rihanna’s Umbrella played with one of Indonesian musical instruments, Angklung.

I despise youtube for giving me such a harsh time uploading their videos to my blog, but it is a must see video. You can watch it by googling “Rihanna, Angklung, youtube”. Or hopefully this link works.

Can anybody explain to me how on earth do we register our blogs to youtube? Thank you!

Latest Obsession: UGLY BETTY

Who can live without obsessions? Well one thing for sure.. I can’t!
Setelah sempat terobsesi ngeblog (yang kini telah berakhir seiring dengan berubahnya “main language” blog kembali ke bahasa Inggris :P), lalu terobsesi mengejar nilai A untuk 6 sks terakhir yang berbuntut kemelut panjang (yang akhirnya diputuskan untuk menjadi “the day to forget.. ASAP!”), kini sang pengangguran telah menemukan kesenangan baru: nonton DVD Ugly Betty!

Ga berbobot? Dangkal? Tipikal tontonan cewek yang hobi dandan tapi ga punya otak?

Haha.. biarkan orang menilai sesuai pengetahuan mereka. Wit, sarcasm, fashion, life lessons.. All my favorite things packed so beautifully in this hilarious comedy!

Note to self:
2. Tidak semua laki2 bajingan INGIN menjadi bajingan (but just can’t help it karena dikelilingi oleh “women in heat” — yes, blame it on the bitches),
3. Family always comes first,
4. Friends and enemies.. what’s the difference really?

After all, seperti kata Oom Darwin dalam The Origin of Species:
only the fittest survive and evolve.

Here’s the latest quote that got me all hysterical –reminds me a lot of some (obsessive) bloggers actually :P:

If you have nothing to write, try killing yourself. If you fail, you’ll have something to write about. If you succeed, your troubles will be over.
-Betty’s writing teacher
